In 1978, a U.S. federal judge ruled that male and female reporters could have equal access to locker rooms (Druzin, 2001). Unfortunately, women still received backlash and suffered through abuse. At the time, Paola Boivin was a Chicago Cub reporter and she had entered into the St. Louis Cardinals clubhouse in 1987 along with other male reporters. She had went in to interview Terry Pendleton and a teammate of his asked Boivin "'are you here to interview somebody or to look at a bunch of guys *****?'" (Druzin, 2001). After this, a player threw a jockstrap at her, which landed on her head. Boivin along with other women dealt with significant abuse in and out of locker rooms, but they continue to persevere in sports media.
